A summary of my filmmaking experiences, both self-driven and under employment. Click on the section headings for more information.
Video Editor & Office Assistant, May 2018 – August 2018
Intern, November 2017 – May 2018
The team at Arvold kept me busy with a large variety of tasks, and I deeply appreciate the freedom they allowed me to guide my own work. I’ve helped the company on projects in casting, development, and education.
My most involved task was assembling a sizzle reel out of clips of nearly every actor the company has cast – from feature films (Lincoln) and TV shows (House of Cards, Turn) to short films and commercials.
Executive Producer, May 2017 – May 2018
LabShorts is a student-run film organization at UVa that was founded in January 2016. I was brought on in its first semester as the Casting Director, and in May 2017, I succeeded the founder as Executive Producer.
LabShorts has a mission of creating critically-engaged art to fuel the discussion of social issues on campus. My duties were to oversee the production of two short films per semester. Films were pitched, written, cast, shot, and edited over the course of three months with little to no budget, and premiered to a live audience at a showcase. As we were still a young organization, a large portion of my job was to write grant proposals (that were accepted) and win support as we successfully built a foothold in the University.
Programming Intern, October 2017 – January 2018
With the wonderful folks at Sun Valley, I watched film screeners (short or feature) and provided some brief comments and a rating for the Programming Director and the Associate Programmer. I served as the first pair of eyes to look at a submission and to consider its quality, helping to narrow down thousands of submissions to a final slate of thirty.
Key Production Assistant, June 2018
Being my first professional production, Swing Low was a challenging test and a wildly fun time. For a thirty day shoot in June 2017, I gained experience working below the Unit Production Manager and Associate Producer. I made calls and filed receipts in the production office, locked up public roads, took care of talent, and made daily runs for equipment and craft services.
I even drove 600 miles roundtrip on the last day of production to return equipment. I told you it was wild.
Acquisitions and Development Intern, June – August 2016
From their website,
AMBI Distribution, based in Beverly Hills, California, is the worldwide sales arm of AMBI Pictures, Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi’s vertically integrated finance, production and distribution company.
My internship at AMBI in the Summer of 2016 consisted primarily of writing coverage on feature screenplays. This was both the most time-consuming and rewarding duty I was given. Breaking scripts down into their essential parts and talking about their merits from both a story and market standpoint was fascinating and incredibly helpful for me as an aspiring filmmaker.
I was also asked to assemble talent lists, screen film submissions, file documents, cover phones, and of course, make runs. My summer in Beverly Hills was an absolute privilege.
